Unión Base, Puyo.- On June 6, after more than a month of competition, community engagement, and exchange among young people from different Amazonian communities and Indigenous nationalities, the grand final of the EVA Cup 2026 was held. The tournament is an initiative of the Living School of the Amazon (Escuela Viva de la Amazonía – EVA) that promotes sports, integration, and stronger community ties.
Over seven weeks, a total of 42 matches were played across 11 rounds, establishing the EVA Cup as a space for learning, intercultural exchange, and healthy competition among students, organizations, and participating communities.
In the men's division, Huanteros, representing the Living School of the Amazon, faced Tarir in a closely contested final. Tarir ultimately claimed the championship title, while Huanteros finished as runner-up after an outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
In the women's division, Tarir once again demonstrated its athletic excellence by winning the 2026 championship, while Pitalalas secured second place.
The closing ceremony also recognized the tournament's most outstanding athletes, honoring those who distinguished themselves through their performance, commitment, and talent on the field.
As part of the closing activities, participants also celebrated the EVA Ancestral Games 2026, an event designed to honor and revitalize the knowledge and cultural practices of Amazonian peoples. Competitions included traditional face painting and interpretation of its symbolic meanings, banana peeling, chicha drinking, spear throwing, and imitation of Amazonian wild bird songs, strengthening younger generations' connection to their cultural identity.
Beyond the sporting results, the EVA Cup 2026 reaffirmed its mission of promoting coexistence, mutual respect, solidarity, and collective work among young people from different Indigenous nationalities and Amazonian territories, contributing to the development of new leaders committed to their communities and cultures.
The Living School of the Amazon congratulated all participating teams for their dedication, discipline, and spirit of camaraderie, while expressing gratitude to everyone whose commitment made this new edition of the sporting and cultural gathering possible.
